To celebrate the new energy growing at Teurastamo, Kohta has invited the curator Sakari Tervo to talk with the artist Thomas Nyqvist about contemporary painting and its relevance within exhibition making today.

In his group exhibitions for Pitted Dates at Teurastamo, Tervo has consistently included interesting painting by artists of different generations active in Finland.

About the speakers:

Thomas Nyqvist has been a distinct voice in Finnish painting since he started exhibiting in the late 1970s. He has consistently made the case for painted images in contemporary visual culture, deliberately focusing on what might be called ‘the inner landscape’.

Sakari Tervo runs the exhibition platform Pitted Dates and works as a university teacher at Aalto University. He has co-directed the artist-run spaces Titanik (2012–14) and Sorbus (2014–19), and has curated a series of online exhibitions. For Tervo, art is a social weave where other possible worlds exist.
