Petriina Kiiskinen: It started with a Wallpaper
What is being chased is shattered at the first real contact. Not because it is weak, but because contact changes everything. But wariness creates distance, and distance distorts —
Dust, dust, lungs full
Vomit that tastes like care
Squeaks, sticking, stretching
Would you even try to hit it!
It started with a Wallpaper is a composition of things that happen at the core of wariness and impulsiveness at the same time: confusion followed by serenity, a hazy observation that is being trusted, and absurdity as a norm, something just that far beside the mark that it cannot be fixed.
Petriina Kiiskinen (b. 1999) is a visual artist working primarily with sculpture and installation. Her practice is based on an intuitive, hands-on approach, and a shared collaboration with material. In her works, she explores the limits of the human mind and the gray area that lies between control and the uncontrollable. She is particularly interested in the tension where the internal memory and logic of materials meet the structures of cultural memory.
It started with a Wallpaper is Petriina Kiiskinen’s fourth solo exhibition. Kiiskinen graduated from the Turku Academy Arts Academy in spring 2025 and has also studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp and Liminka School of Art. She has also participated in numerous public art projects, working independently and in collaboration in Finland and internationally.
