Jukka Kinanen: As I recall - before and after

Promenadigalleria / Exhibitions
19.9.–7.10.2026
To Remember - Before and After Promenade Gallery

The works in the exhibition are a review of what has been done over the decades, a kind of description of one person's artistic path.

The works are also works that are still particularly important to me for different reasons. They represent different aspects of my work: graphics, collages, painting and three-dimensional works.

The works also describe conceptually and symbolically my relationship to the reflections of different cultures in the history of art. The ancient tradition still lives strong in contemporary culture and is an inexhaustible source and opportunity for artists to create new postmodern interpretations of old themes of ancient mythology.

The two-dimensional works are both new and old. The new works are serial works made with acrylic paints on Japanese koto-shi paper, in which I have experimented with different possibilities of pictorial expression from one style to another. The paintings in the exhibition are works created over the years on different themes.

The three-dimensional works are mainly newer If the works do not open up to the viewer as the artist himself thought them, but how the viewer experiences and interprets the works is as good and correct an interpretation as the author's.

The works in the exhibition are from six different decades, starting from the 1970s and ending with this year 2026.
