Laura Hokkanen: I reach down to the ground
On the table is a piece of white marble found on the banks of a turbulent river, a piece of driftwood found on the seashore, a part of a porcelain statue found on a sandy wasteland, and a piece of glass pipe found in the forest. Hokkanen has been collecting these particular pieces for four years. It is a puzzle, an enigma, and the correct answer exists. It reveals itself slowly and then suddenly and unexpectedly.
The finished work is humane and good, and Hokkanen wants to present it to everyone.
"Reaching to the Ground" brings works sculpted from found materials to Kouta Gallery, whose subjects include people, animals, plants, and weather conditions. Mystical associations and a small, treasure-like size take the viewer into a world of stories.
Laura Hokkanen is a 29-year-old sculptor. She works with sculptures and environmental art in Helsinki. The source of inspiration is ritual objects, amulets and jewelry from around the world.
Kouta Gallery is located in the Poikilo Museum. Admission to the gallery is included in the museum entrance fee:

- 8 € studentis, pensioners, conscripts, and the unemployed
- free admission for those under 18
- Free admission to the art museum and Kouta Gallery on Fridays from 4 pm to 6 pm
