Johanna Kestilä, Hanna-Helena Kinnunen, Kirsi Porkka: Mothers and Daughters
Äideistä ja tyttäristä (Mothers and Daughters) is a multidisciplinary, spatial exhibition that explores motherhood and girlhood both as personal experiences and as broader social phenomena. The exhibition examines gender-related norms, expectations, and roles, asking: What have we inherited from our mothers, and what do we pass on to our daughters?
Originating at Vaasa Art Hall, the collection of works was created collaboratively across artistic disciplines. The working languages of four artists from different fields - visual art, film, sound design, and dramaturgy - are closely intertwined throughout the exhibition. The group's parallel and interactive process allows the works to engage in dialogue with one another, creating new layers of meaning through a shared creative process. After Vaasa, the exhibition is intended to tour other cities and evolve along the way towards international venues.
