Marjut Turunen: Secret garden

The exhibition Secret Garden features photographic prints created using the lumen print technique, offering a new interpretation of familiar plants from the yard. The process utilizes plants via photogram techniques as well as film-printed negatives to produce the prints. Each print is handcrafted through the interplay of light and the materials used, involving an inherent element of unpredictable chance.

The artworks do not aim to document plants as they are, but rather to interpret them through light, color, form, and texture. In the prints, the plants appear partly fragile, mystical, and at times almost unrecognizable. They gain a new form of expression where the plant's original appearance or color plays only a partial role.

At the same time, the exhibition highlights analogue photography. Lumen prints are delicate and imperfect, and every single print is unique. The exhibition aims to spark conversation about what analogue photography can be today—not merely nostalgia, but a living, experiential art form.

Turunen is a photographer particularly interested in analogue photography and the expressive possibilities it offers within fine art photography and storytelling. Her work combines craftsmanship, experimentation, and visual expression.
