Komugi Ando: There is a mountain, a hill and a valley

“I have been contemplating my own way of praying. What could prayer be, and what might it look like, if we were to think freely?

At the moment, prayer appears to me as a slow, tedious form of working by hand.

A visual and sonic narrative that tells a story of landscape and contemplation: ‘Do I dare?’

The installation consists of a wall hanging patterned with cord I have made myself from nettles, and a sound work. A ceramic dog is also present in the space as a friendly companion to the visitors. I recommend spending at least three minutes in the space.”

Komugi Ando (b. 1986) is a visual artist and storyteller. Ando is originally from Japan, from the slopes of a volcano. She lives and works in the Päijät-Häme region of Finland. Ando primarily works with sound, storytelling, sculpture, and installation. Pairing together unlikely elements, she creates unique fantasy worlds that exist in a universe of their own.
